The Head of Strategy, Wealth & Investment Management (WIM) will advise and support the CEO of Wealth & Investment Management, one of Wells Fargo’s four primary operating segments, and the WIM leadership team in designing and driving business innovation, growth opportunities, and strategic priorities across the wealth and investment ecosystem. This Strategy Leader will be accountable for developing and leading strategic plans, advancing business transformation, and positioning WIM for sustainable long-term growth in an evolving competitive and regulatory environment.
The Head of WIM Strategy will report to the Head of Enterprise Strategy and have a dotted line into the CEO of Wealth & Investment Management.
Role may be based in New York or Florida.
Responsibilities
Advance WIM’s understanding of evolving client expectations, advisor needs, competitive trends, regulatory developments, and technology innovations that impact the wealth and investment landscape.
Continually benchmark across the competitive landscape, including wealth managers, RIAs, asset managers, digital wealth platforms, private banks, and fintech entrants.
Update, challenge, and refine the long-term (3–5 year) strategic vision and growth plan for WIM, encompassing advisory, brokerage, asset management, lending, digital wealth, and retirement businesses.
Develop a prioritized roadmap of investments, partnerships, and capabilities to fuel growth, enhance client experience, evolve the advisor value proposition, and strengthen enterprise connectivity.
Partner with Wealth leaders – including the WIM CEO and CFO – to develop and evolve an enterprise-aligned strategy roadmap that supports WIM’s robust growth aspirations.
Ensure strong alignment and coordination with firmwide and cross-LOB objectives, including with Consumer Banking and Lending (CBL), Commercial Banking (CB), Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB), and Corporate Strategy where relevant.
Support the development and enhancement of internal consulting and analytics capabilities to evaluate key strategic questions and develop insights across client segments, distribution channels, advisor models, and product ecosystems.
Ensure insights, strategic recommendations, and execution roadmaps are well communicated and understood by senior leaders and stakeholders across WIM and the enterprise.
Provide strategic oversight and guidance to ensure business objectives - including responsible growth, risk excellence, and differentiated client and advisor experiences—are achieved.
Successful Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of the wealth management and investment industry, including client segments, advisor models, platform capabilities, investment products, regulatory considerations, and the competitive landscape. They will stay current on business initiatives and market trends, and clearly and expertly, communicate analysis, strategic solutions and execution roadmaps to the business and enterprise at all levels. In addition, this leader must be able to provide oversight and guidance to ensure company objectives are achieved (i.e., growth, risk, client experience).
Critical success factors will include the ability to manage effectively in a matrixed organization, develop partnerships across business and operational/functional areas, a deep knowledge of financial technology, and lead through influence. The role requires a sense of urgency, passion for results, and personal accountability for achievement.
Required Qualifications:
8 years of Strategy and Planning experience or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
4 years of Management experience
Desired Qualifications
Seasoned business leader with 14 years of relevant experience, with progressively increasing responsibility in wealth management, private banking, asset management, retirement, fintech, or advisory platform strategy.
Experience leading strategy for a high-growth or transformation-oriented business.
Deep understanding of wealth management markets, including product and platform evolution, client segmentation, and advisor ecosystems.
An innovative mindset with an ability to leverage emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to accelerate business performance.
Experience managing in a large-scale, complex matrixed organization, and leading change through influence.
Demonstrated ability to quantify operational effectiveness, identify strategic opportunities, and implement strategies that drive improved performance.
Strong change leadership skills with a proven ability to navigate and lead through transformation.
A disciplined operator who can manage in a complex risk and regulatory environment.
Ability to instill a culture of accountability, ownership, and results across teams.
Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, with a track record of converting insights into actionable plans.
Demonstrated leadership skills including strong relationship building, collaboration, influence, negotiation, and partnership—especially with executive stakeholders.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly across audiences and levels.
Leadership experience involving integration of multiple technology platforms, advisory tools, investment systems, or client-service processes.
Some travel required.
Pay Range
Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.
$250,000.00 - $420,000.00
