State Street Investment Management’s Data, Analytics & AI Services (DAAIS) team is seeking a Senior Principal, Data Platform & Software Engineering (Vice President) for our Boston office. This role is accountable for the architecture, engineering delivery, and operational excellence of modern data platform and software capabilities that enable the investment management business. The successful candidate will bring deep hands-on expertise in data platform architecture, containerized services, data pipeline engineering, and software application development, along with proven leadership experience in the financial services industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead an agile engineering team to deliver solutions that address evolving business and client needs.
- Partner with global teams to deliver cross-border initiatives and continuously improve engineering standards and best practices.
- Coach and mentor engineers, promoting a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and high performance.
- Define and own platform architecture, including data ingestion and consumption services, transformation and master data management (MDM) capabilities, and catalog-based data governance to enable open architecture, interoperability, high concurrency, and strong system performance.
- Design and lead the implementation of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines, including the establishment of development, QA, UAT, production, and disaster recovery environments.
- Evaluate and advance the use of agentic AI frameworks to improve software delivery across the full software development life cycle (SDLC).
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related engineering discipline.
- 15 years of technology experience in the financial services industry.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience designing and implementing modern, open-architecture data platforms supporting OLAP, OLTP, and near real-time workloads; familiarity with catalog services that enable multiple compute engines, high concurrency, and strong performance.
- Extensive hands-on experience architecting and implementing enterprise DevOps and CI/CD pipelines, including networking, storage, security, and capacity planning, with cloud-agnostic solutions across public cloud providers (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Strong proficiency with modern data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks) and programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL); familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Codex, Anthropic tools).
- 4 years of experience working with unstructured data sources (e.g., sales notes, 13F filings, news, social media).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and align stakeholders across geographies.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results with strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and a direct, constructive approach.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a data platform architect within a financial institution.
- Experience with both structured and unstructured data management tools and patterns.
- CFA Level I completion (or equivalent certification).
Salary Range:
$120,000 - $217,500 Annual
The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
