State Street Investment Management is seeking a Vice President, Market Data Strategy & Vendor Management to work collaboratively across Investment Management business units and with partners across Procurement, Finance and Legal teams at State Street Bank and Trust Company enterprise, ensuring the effective management and administration of market data services. This role will report into the Head of Index Market Data and will play a critical role in supporting the market data procurement and ongoing management lifecycle, with an initial focus on Index market data and ESG data responsibilities.
The VP will operate as a trusted partner to senior stakeholders across State Street Investment Management and the broader enterprise, helping to drive transparency, commercial discipline, and strategic vendor outcomes. The successful candidate will be highly resourceful, intellectually curious, and motivated to drive change — combining strong market data expertise with analytical rigor, relationship management, and executive presence in a global, virtual, and highly matrixed environment.
What you will be responsible for
- Lead analysis and day‑to‑day governance support for key market data vendors aligned to Index and ESG priorities, including licensing constructs, renewals, service considerations, and commercial outcomes.
- Represent State Street Investment Management in enterprise‑wide discussions regarding market data vendors impacting Index and ESG, and coordinate inputs and follow‑through across stakeholders.
- Collaborate and partner with teams across Procurement, Finance, Legal, Risk, and Technology to ensure outcomes are commercially sound, operationally executable, and aligned to Investment Management requirements.
- Establish and manage strong relationships with Investment Management business teams (Index, ESG, Investments, Operations, Technology) to develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of market data products, services, and use cases.
- Drive transparency and structured insights by producing executive‑ready, decision‑focused analyses covering vendor economics, usage and demand signals, risks, and strategic options—translating complex inputs into clear recommendations.
- Support budgeting and spend management activities for Index and ESG market data in partnership with Finance, including scenario analysis and identification of cost optimization opportunities.
- Support demand management by collaborating with stakeholders to document pipelines, define priorities, and streamline the scope of market data needs through clear intake and governance practices.
- Contribute to the evolution of the Market Data operating model, including governance, reporting standards, stakeholder engagement rhythms, and repeatable ways of working that scale capability and reduce key‑person dependency.
- Operate effectively within a virtual, global organization — building influence through proactive communication, strong expectation management, and relationship‑led delivery across regions and functions.
- Contribute to forward looking initiatives and emerging data themes relevant to the market data function, including ESG innovation and evolving data and licensing models.
What we value
- Ownership and accountability — taking responsibility for outcomes, following through on commitments, and proactively managing risks and expectations.
- Intellectual curiosity and continuous learning — a desire to understand how things work, ask thoughtful questions, and apply learning to improve decisions, processes, and outcomes.
- Solution orientation — approaching complexity with a mindset focused on options, paths forward, and practical execution rather than obstacles.
- Collaboration and relationship management — building trust across functions and geographies, working effectively in a matrixed and virtual environment, and strengthening partnerships over time.
- Clarity and rigor — the ability to synthesize complexity into clear, structured, executive‑ready insights that support informed decision‑making.
- Pace and discipline — delivering with urgency, maintaining high standards, and balancing strategic thinking with reliable execution.

- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to create structured, compelling analyses for senior audiences.
- Strong strategic and commercial judgment, with the credibility and gravitas to engage effectively with senior stakeholders.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce concise, executive‑ready materials and manage stakeholder expectations proactively.
- Comfort operating across ambiguity, balancing independent judgment with alignment to broader objectives and governance.
- Strong collaboration skills and emotional intelligence, with the ability to navigate challenge constructively and lead with influence rather than authority.
- Execution discipline and reliability, with clear ownership, proactive updates, and consistent delivery of tangible work products.
- A team‑first mindset, focused on scalable ways of working, knowledge sharing, and building sustainable capability across the organization.
